DVD's on the Horizon

Word is, The Monster Squad will finally hit DVDs in October of this year.

Since I have been waiting for this film forever because it has never been released for mass consumption (The VHS copies were originally rental only) you can pencil me in to buy it on day 1.

Filmjunk.com listed a bunch of other movies that have yet to make the DVD jump but most of them were crap, so does anyone else have any DVDs they have been waiting for.

Also, what DVD special editions are you waiting for?

Here are my top five films that I have held off buying because I am waiting for a good edition, and I will update if any of them get announced.

1. The Dirty Harry Series - They currently only have the stupid Warner Brothers snap case set which is garbage. Put together some special features and make a nice box set.

2. Road Warrior - This movie is awesome, and it has one of the best chase actions sequences ever. I want a big special edition with a featurette on the finale at least. And if you want to package this with Mad Max, and Thunderdome I'll still buy it.

3. Bruce Lee's other films - The Enter the Dragon special edition is great and I think they should do the same thing for all his films especially The Chinese Connection.

4. Chinatown/The Two Jakes - These are classic Noir films and I can't believe they haven't gotten the Special Edition treatment.

5. Goonies - A campy kid classic that should have been done 5 years ago. Stupid WB snap case.

While I don't share Dean's optimism for that Squad, his other selections are pure gold, esp Mad F---ing Max. I'd kill a goat in the wilderness for that DVD. I also have movies which I am waiting to receive the full-on "Ultra Special Limited Edition DVD Treatment" or just get release. Oh, and Dean, again, great selections.

1) EXOSQUAD: THE SERIES: This cartoon was one of the best in the history of Sunday Morning. It tells the epic struggle of humans versus their own cloned slaves, the Neo-sapiens. This is like an Animated version of sci-fi's BattleStar Galactica, and I desperately want it. You here me UNIVERSAL!!!! Get it done!!!
2)Batman: Mask of The Phantasm: Because I no longer have a VHS player, I had to breakdown and get the crappy Warner Bros. snap case version of this masterpiece of animation and Batman lore. Seriously, this movie rules and kicks the tar out of every live action Batman flic (well, maybe ties with Begins.
3) SHAFT (2000) HOW BOUT A VERSION THAT FINALLY INCLUDES THE DELETED ALTERNATE SCENE WHERE SHAFT BEATS UP CHRISTIAN BALE AT THE AIRPORT. I won't go into my anger over this. Let's just say the inclusion of snippets from the scene in trailer sold me on the movie, then weren't actually in it--so I hated the movie until about another 3 viewings, now I love it, but i WANT MY JACKSON vs BALE fisticuffs, NOW!!!
4) Rocky II-VWe get special editoin of ROCKY out the wazoo. Now, Rocky Balboa gets a special--well, how bout the others. Rocky III: Championship Edition with freakin Mr. T screentest, Full work-out with Carl Waeathers, and rehearsal for Rocky vs Thunderlips with commentary by the Hulkstrer himself! Yes, we want special editions of these, and we want them ASAP.
Well if we can include TV shows then throw in a vote for
X-Men the Animated Series, which I still can't believe hasn't been released. Actually I think I might even be tempted by the Spiderman animated series, if they release it.

Shyamalan and Wahlberg

M. Nights has cast M. "Marky Mark" Wahlberg in his latest film, The Happening, scheduled for next summer. Former rapper M. Dubs will play a science teacher who must save his class from a natural disaster. ShamaNights has scored an R-rating and a fairly large budget despite his recent box office troubles.

"I still think Malan is the Man and still makes great films, he just had a hard time living up to the greatnest of Sixth Sense" (Navalore, 2006, p.267).
